The planning of the 6 x 13 meter site-specific mosaic artwork commenced together with design inception for Auto & General Park, home of Telesure Investment Holdings to ensure harmony between the built fabric and the artwork. The building offers cutting-edge work and entertainment spaces with spectacular views across the northern Gauteng skyline. The Wayfarer is prominently positioned inside the central public atrium of the 24000 m2 headquarter building, now home to more than 2000 Telesure employees.
The Wayfarer is placed against a mammoth off-shutter concrete wall, providing a neutral backdrop for the striking and vibrant colour palette of the mosaic artwork. The artwork is visible as one enters the four-story volume atrium, with a pedestrian bridge providing an up-close view to appreciate the detail of the artwork. An engineered steel frame provides structural support for the 2.8 tons of material. The artwork does not only enrich the palette of the interior, but its subject matter encourages viewers to think, reflect and communicate across both cultural and social divides. Telesure visitors and employees are offered thought provoking points for discussion and engagement.
